Lean Improvement Group (LIG):
This group will meet 3 times per year – January, May and September at a host company plant. Meetings will run 2-2.5 hours at a start time determined by the host company. Effective July 2018, participation will be limited to those companies:
Who are able have at least one company representative at a minimum of 2 of the 3 LIG or LDG meetings held in succession, with attendance records reviewed in July and January.
As developing rapport among group members is key to encouraging honest feedback, those who not had at least one person from their company at more than 2 LIG or LDG meetings in a 12 month time frame will be dropped from the Lean Improvement group.
LIG members must willing to host the group in their plant, with a theme or focus around a particular area of Lean that they are working on, and would like honest feedback from the group to help them improve. Host companies are guaranteed membership in the group for one year from the date of hosting. (however, KCMN membership dues must also remain current)
Membership in this group will be limited to 12 companies, with initial openings to be offered on a first come basis. A waitlist will also be kept so that those who choose to drop can be replaced.
Lean Discussion Group (LDG):
The goal of this group is to meet for 1.5 hours at a time determined by the host company to discuss particular topics around Lean. This group will meet 3 times a year – March, July and November (or in different months than the Lean Improvement Group). While hosting of this group is also required, it does not have to include a tour, can be at any location, including another group member’s conference room, and can take any format that the host company chooses:
Lean Coffee – general discussion of Lean topics and ideas
Facilitated learning or educational topic on Lean
Specific discussion of a Lean topic
Participation in this group is open to any manufacturing company whose membership is current in KCMN. Participants must attend at least 2 of the last 3 LDG meetings held if they are interested in being considered for the Lean Improvement Group, or you can continue in the LDG indefinitely if preferred. The host company can provide guidelines for the number of attendees that they can accommodate.
Participants must be a manufacturer, or non-service provider member of KCMN whose membership dues are current. Membership in either group requires at least one company representative to attend at least 2 of the group meetings in a 12 month period to be considered a member in good standing. Companies hosting a Lean Improvement Group tour are considered a member in good standing for one year from date of hosting.
If there is a potential competitive concern, new members must be approved by existing group members in good standing.
New members who join the group must agree to be scheduled to lead a future discussion of their choosing within 6 months of joining the group.
Effective January 2018, all member correspondence will be sent utilizing Basecamp. This ensures that the member list is current at all times, and provides an opportunity for group members to share information or ask questions outside of the physical meetings. Group members must join Basecamp (at no charge) to review past discussions or access any shared files from group members.
There is no charge to belong to these groups, but your KCMN membership must be current to participate. Should this be of interest to you, or someone else in your company, please send their contact information to Donna Gordon at email@example.com, or 816-304-7958.
