In the fall of 2010, we featured speakers who touted the value of having an innovation program in place, and stressed the importance of keeping a pipeline to improvement open. This meeting will feature 3 speakers who will focus on the nuts and bolts of dealing with the product of your innovation program:

  • What is the best process for evaluating and utilizing new ideas?
  • How do I prioritize new innovations?
  • Key principles that are relevant to a successful innovation program.

Our speakers will discuss:

Drew Lericos, Director of Marketing, Robbie Flexibles

Drew will discuss Robbie’s structured Innovation Process which is used to set strategic direction for innovation, create and populate an ongoing innovation funnel and establish a means to review and commercialize all new product initiatives. A key objective is to ensure that limited resources are being utilized for the best overall benefit of Robbie and are aligned with major company goals.

Patti Streeper , VP, Corporate Innovation Group, Hallmark Cards, Inc.

Patti will provide a high-level overview of Hallmark’s consumer-driven innovation process and it’s linkage to their solution development process (stage-gate); including their funnel and pipe process configuration. Patti will also discuss the qualities of the people who make up successful innovation teams, which are the most important ingredient in the process. She will review key principles to successful innovation such as: knowing your customer and their expectations, and willingness to ask new questions, experiment, and adjust.

Jesse H Bechtold, CPA, CFO & COO, MAMTC

Mr. Bechtold coaches the Innovation Engineering Program to create, communicate and commercialize meaningfully unique innovations in products, services, markets, customers and process improvements. This system, based upon Deming’s rapid cycles of learning, is attributed by Proctor and Gamble with bringing innovations to market in 20% of the time and cost of alternative programs.

State renewable energy standards, increasing regulation, and an uncertain political climate regarding energy policy are some of the factors that point to a trend of rising energy costs. However, there are ways to cut your energy costs and reduce the impact of rising rates on your bottom line. Join KCMN in welcoming Gary Hogsett, a nationally recognized energy engineer and speaker, to discuss strategies for cutting your energy bill.
Gary will review the top 10 energy savings opportunities in industrial plants. He will discuss energy efficiency as it relates to such industrial building systems as; Insulation, Lighting, Thermostats, Compressed Air, Demand Management, Heat Recovery opportunities, Steam systems (boilers), Motors, etc. He will also cover a few energy project financing opportunities such as rebates, and the USDA energy efficiency grant and loan programs.

About our Speaker
Gary Hogsett P.E., CEM, LC, LEED-AP, Mid-America Manufacturing Technology Center
Gary is a nationally recognized energy engineer and speaker. Over a span of 30 years, Mr. Hogsett has held a wide range of energy management consulting positions. He previously served as the State Energy Engineer for the State of Kansas, as well as an Energy Analyst for the Oklahoma Energy Analysis and Diagnostic Center. He provided energy consulting for more than 1,400 facilities while employed by firms such as Johnson Controls, Tetra Tech, and Burns & McDonnell. He has recently been appointed by the Governor of Kansas to the Governor’s Wind Energy Task Force. Gary received both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Industrial Engineering from Oklahoma State University. He has served as Region IV Vice President and is currently a member of the Certified Energy Manager certification board. He is active in the Kansas City chapter, and under his leadership as President, the Chapter was selected as AEE’s Chapter of the Year. He is an accomplished and passionate public speaker and trainer, and has won ten local and regional public speaking contests sponsored by Toastmasters.

Doug Richards – Managing Partner, RH & Associates
As managing partner of RH & Associates, Doug works as an author, professional speaker and futurist. Doug has a diverse professional history – author, chef, teacher, coach, entrepreneur and multimedia developer are just some of the roles Doug has taken in his career path. Doug is a self-described ‘second generation nerd’ who views technology not as a necessary evil but rather a tool for semantic change. In 2004, he left his role in online development for the Sprint University of Excellence, and spent five years researching social media and counseling launch teams for start up in sales and process improvement. He applied his experience to his role today at RH & Associates, which specializes in utilizing social business technology to help their clients create time and mobility. Richard Powell, General Manager, Brunson Instruments
Brunson Instrument Company is one of a very few American companies that specializes in industrial measurement. The 81-year-old company helps solve measurement problems for manufacturers of large machines, including aircraft, paper mills, satellites, ships, machines tools and particle accelerators. Brunson operates its manufacturing facility using Theory of Constraints and lean processes including lean accounting. Richard Powell has been the General Manager since 2001. In 2007 Brunson was approached by Missouri Enterprise to participate in a pilot program for business growth called “Winning Ways”. The program was developed by Doug Hall, founder and CEO of the Eureka Ranch a corporate think tank that is utilized by some of the biggest corporations in the world.

Jon Willis Assistant Vice President and Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City
Jon joined the Economic Research Department in September 2000. A native of Iowa, Jon received a B.A. degree in economics from Grinnell College in 1993 and a Ph.D. degree in economics from Boston University in 2001. Jon conducts research on labor market dynamics over the business cycle and the relationship between the price-setting behavior of firms and inflation dynamics. In addition to working at the Bank, he has served as a visiting assistant professor at the University of Texas at Austin.

Regina Heise has been the Director of the U.S. Commercial Service-Kansas City office since October 2005. In this capacity, she works daily with U.S. companies to pursue international sales opportunities and coordinates efforts with the larger international trade community to bring value-added programming to area businesses. An agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Commercial Service is the main trade promotion arm of the U.S. Government.
